The canine basic training program is an 8 week class that is offered through Edgecombe Community College in Tarboro NC. This course is designed to train the handler and the canine together. We have set our own certification requirements that exceed standards set by other certifying organizations.

Law Enforcement Therapy Dog Training & USPCA Certification
East Coast Canine will be putting on a 3 day therapy dog class and USPCA trial in Rocky Mount September 23-26. It will be a good opportunity to meet other law enforcement therapy dog handlers from across the state, network, learn tips and tricks to enhance your program, and an additional opportunity to participate in an evaluation. Tracking & Narcotics Seminar
Hosted by the Union County Sheriffs Office. This will be three days of real world scenario based training focusing on tracking and narcotic detection.

High Risk K9 Deployments

September 16 – 18, 2024
This is a three working day seminar with 30 hours of instruction. The class will comprise both classroom instruction and practical street work.
The class will be open to Law Enforcement K-9 handlers and supervisors. Limited to 30 handler/dog teams. Spectators, including supervisors are welcome to attend with no limits on attendees.
Classroom work will cover deployments, apprehensions, explosive detection and tactical approaches. Scenario based training offers training in the following areas: deployments in high risk patrol operations, deployments involving water, tactical approaches in building & area searches, vehicle deployments, apprehensions, and proper decoying techniques.
Instruction on proper use of bite suit, hidden sleeve and muzzle. The methods taught in this seminar allow for safer approaches to high risk deployments.

Narcotics K9 Search & Seizure (K9 Legal Update)
This is a FREE 8 hour course is designed specifically to enhance your skills at articulating necessary facts which are important to showing K9 reliability during court proceedings.
Introduction to E-Collar
This class will cover device nomenclature & function, the proper way to introduce the collar to the K9, reward marker training, and multi-directional maneuverability of the K9 using the device. This class is designed to provide the K9 team with a working foundation of E-collar knowledge and use. Instructors will also work closely with handlers to address any problem solving needs.

Hosted by Davidson County Sheriff’s Office. This class will be scenario-based training that focuses on real world K9 tracking deployments. K9 teams will further be exposed to tracking exercises designed to enhance their performance and further their problem solving skills.

Advanced K9 Detection
Hosted by Morehead City Police Department. This class will be scenario-based training that focuses on real world detection deployments. K9 teams will be exposed to advanced hide scenarios designed to increase the skills of both K9 and handler. Handlers will also learn to problem solve various issues.

Advanced Narcotic Detection
This three day seminar is designed to equip canine teams with the knowledge and tools that they need to navigate advanced narcotic detection deployments. Canine teams will participate in real-world scenario-based training that will include the following topics: large and small advanced narcotic hides, interior and exterior narcotic hides, commercial motor vehicle narcotic hides, postal narcotic interdiction, canine behavior in advanced narcotic deployments, how to train for advanced narcotic deployments, and more.

Hard Surface Tracking
Hosted at Edgecombe Community College in Tarboro, NC. This three day classroom and scenario based training focuses extensively on canine tracking on hard surfaces. This is an advanced tracking course that will teach handlers how to start their canines on hard surfaces typically found in urban environments. Canines will be taught to focus on human odor only and will learn solid scent discrimination. *Fee exempt for law enforcement.
